Association Medcan in the media - visible, asked and more important than ever
Strong media presence - growing interest
In the past 6 months, Medcan has been more present in public than ever before. As early as December 2024, a comprehensive reportage was published in the Sonntagszeitung , which not only reported on our work, but also showed how many chronically ill people would like an alternative form of therapy.
Since then, our mailbox has hardly come to rest. Many inquiries reach us every day. We are now answering messages in four languages: German, French, Italian and English. People from all over Switzerland are looking for information on the medical application of cannabis, but often do not know how to proceed - and unfortunately find too rarely support with their treating doctors. That is why we have taken on this information work.
Medical specialists are also looking for advice
However, they are not just the sick who contact us. We are also increasingly receiving inquiries from medical specialists: general practitioners, pharmacies or pain therapists who would like to find out about the legal situation, doses or sources of supply. The uncertainty is great - and shows how urgently a better education and training in this area would be needed.
Medcan's voice is heard
Our continuous educational work has an effect. The Swiss media are also increasingly taking up the topic - and give Medcan space to bring in our perspective. In April 2025, the SRF science magazine a large part of its podcast to the topic. Our member Dominic said his story there: Despite medical support, he still has to fight for the assumption of costs by his health insurance company - a fate that share many.
Swiss family magazine published an extensive article about two of our members, Sandra and Franziska, who described openly and impressively how they integrated cannabis into their everyday life and how it improved their quality of life.
Media work changes perspectives
This media work is of central importance. Only if we speak openly and honestly about the topic - in newspapers, on television, in podcasts and on social media - can we change public perception in the long term. The stigma, which has built up for cannabis as a supposedly "evil drug" for decades, cannot be dismantled overnight. But it can be dismantled - step by step, history for history.
The personal reports of the cannabis patients in particular are so valuable. They give the medicinal plant a face. They show that this is not about Recreational Consumption , but about quality of life, pain relief, about hope. They help to finally get cannabis from the corner of illegality and prejudices - wherever it belongs: in the middle of modern, enlightened medicine.
Knowledge is power - and should be accessible
Our experience is valuable-not only for those affected and the medical staff, but also for the growing cannabis industry in Switzerland. That is why we no longer pass any information on free of charge if they are to be used commercially. Anyone who benefits from our expertise should also contribute to the fact that our volunteer work remains possible. Support us too so that we can continue to be a strong voice for all affected and urgently needed change in Switzerland. Your support makes a significant contribution to the fact that our work can be continued.
Conclusion
The Medical Cannabis Association Switzerland is more visible, sought -after and more relevant than ever. Our media presence shows that the topic has arrived in society - but we are far from being at the goal. As long as patients do not find sufficient help as long as doctors are unsure and as long as the stigma around cannabis remains, we continue.
