MEDCAN will hold its Annual General Meeting in Zurich on April 20, 2024. After several digital events in recent years, we are looking forward to finally meeting our members in person. At the AGM, we will inform you about all important matters concerning the Association . After the official proceedings, we cordially invite you to a social gathering. Please mark your calendars for the afternoon in April!

We cordially invite our members to this year's MEDCAN General Assembly on April 20, 2024, at the GZ Wipkingen in Zurich – a day internationally known as "420" and celebrated by cannabis activists. While this day has no medical origin, it marked the beginning of the process of normalizing the cannabis plant. The perfect day for our AGM!

The meeting begins at 2:00 PM and lasts approximately one hour. Afterwards, we invite you to a social gathering to exchange ideas with other members and our supporters in a relaxed atmosphere. The meeting will conclude at 6:00 PM. After the digital events of recent years, we are all the more excited to meet you in person and have direct conversations. You will receive further information at the end of March. Save the date!

Your participation is important to us in order to facilitate the exchange of experiences and to actively shape the future of the medical application of cannabis.

We hope for a large turnout and look forward to an exciting meeting at the 420! If you also want to have your say in our Association , then become a member!

420 – interesting to know:

April 20th, also known as "420," has become a worldwide holiday for cannabis enthusiasts, its origins tracing back to a group of high school students in the 1970s. These teenagers, known as the "Waldos" from San Rafael High School in California, regularly met at 4:20 p.m., after classes and athletic activities, to consume cannabis together. This time allowed them to fulfill their academic obligations while also being home before their parents.

The term "420" originally served as a code word to plan gatherings and shared cannabis use without adult or authority figures finding out. Its spread began when the Waldos cultivated ties with the rock band Grateful Dead. Through their connections and the band's extensive fanbase, "420" gained wider recognition. Over time, Grateful Dead fans and the broader cannabis culture adopted the term, and April 20th became a day for people worldwide to gather and share cannabis. Despite its initial connection to the time, April 20th is now much more than just a code word among high school students; it's a global celebration of cannabis culture.

On April 20th, a wide variety of events take place, from peaceful gatherings and social get-togethers in parks to large festivals and demonstrations advocating for the legalization and decriminalization of cannabis. With the increasing legalization of cannabis in many parts of the world, April 20th is gaining significance and acceptance as a holiday. At the same time, however, it continues to symbolize the ongoing challenges and controversies surrounding cannabis policy and legislation.
