Invitation to the AGM on the 420th
We cordially invite our members to this year's general meeting of MEDCAN on April 20, 2024 at the GZ Wipkingen in Zurich - a day known internationally as "420" and celebrated by cannabis activists. Although this day has no medical origin, it was the beginning of bringing the cannabis plant back to normal. Just the right day for our AGM!
The meeting begins at 2:00 p.m. and lasts approximately one hour. Afterwards, we invite you to a social gathering to exchange ideas with other members and our supporters in a relaxed atmosphere. It ends at 6:00 p.m. After the digital events of the last few years, we are even more looking forward to meeting you in person and having direct conversations. You will receive further information at the end of March. Save the date!
Your participation is important to us in order to enable the exchange of experiences together and to actively shape the future of the medical use of cannabis.
We hope for numerous participation and look forward to an exciting meeting at 420! If you also want to have a say in our Association , then become a member!
420 – interesting to know:
April 20, also known as “420,” has become a global holiday for cannabis lovers, with its origins dating back to a group of high school students in the 1970s. These young people, known as the “Waldos” from San Rafael High School in California, regularly met at 4:20 in the afternoon, after school and sports activities, to consume cannabis together. The chosen time allowed them to meet their school obligations while being home before their parents.
The term “420” originally served as a code word to plan meetings and shared cannabis consumption without adults or authority figures knowing about it. The term's spread began when the Waldos had relationships with the rock band Grateful Dead. Thanks to their connections and the band's extensive fan base, the term "420" achieved nationwide fame. Over time, Grateful Dead fans and the broader cannabis culture adopted the term, and April 20th became a day when people worldwide gather to consume cannabis together. Despite its original connection to time, April 20 is now much more than just a code word among high school students; it is a global holiday for cannabis culture.
April 20 will host a variety of events, from peaceful gatherings and social gatherings in parks to large festivals and demonstrations advocating for the legalization and decriminalization of cannabis. With the increasing legalization of cannabis in many parts of the world, April 20th is becoming more important and accepted as a holiday. At the same time, however, it continues to symbolize the ongoing challenges and controversies surrounding cannabis policy and legislation.
