MEDCAN at CannaTrade 2024
On an area of over 6000m², 150 exhibitors from all over the world offered products and information about the useful, medicinal and recreational plant cannabis. From growing accessories, CBD and hemp products, information on the medical use of hemp, edibles, cosmetics to smoking accessories, everything was there.
The medical area of the trade fair was a highlight for MEDCAN this year. Visitors were able to obtain detailed information about the medical prescription of cannabis from the SGCM (Swiss Society for Cannabis in Medicine), Stauffacher Apotheke, Pure Pharma, Curaleaf and the Association MEDCAN. The organizers gave a lot of space to the medical use of cannabis this year. We're really glad.
On Sunday our Vice President Simon took part in an exciting medical panel. Together with the pharmacist Simon Nicolussi and representatives from the industry, he discussed the changes to the Narcotics Act and their success. The panelists agreed: There is progress and access to cannabis as medicine has become easier. Nevertheless, a lot of educational work remains necessary, especially for medical professionals. Since cannabis is now a narcotic, pharmacies are not allowed to provide information. It is therefore very difficult to educate people in Switzerland about the medical use of cannabis. Doctors often don’t know either. This means that the educational work depends on our Association in which we share the experiences of our members. Our website is also one of the few places that provides detailed information and helps those affected if they want to have cannabis prescribed medically. Our members do this work on a voluntary basis. The cannabis industry knows it needs the Association . We hope that in the future we will receive even more financial support from the companies that make money from the medical use of cannabis. This way we can continue to provide information and enlightenment in the future. You can find our supporters here.
After the informative panel, Franziska and Simon had the opportunity to speak for half an hour about the tenth anniversary of MEDCAN and the important work of the Association . At the end of the question and answer session they were warmly thanked for this important work. We would like to pass on our thanks to everyone who supports the Association and the medical use of cannabis. Only together we are strong. Our members are the basis of this important work and many have been supporting us for years. Many many thanks! We really appreciate this support. If you also think our work is important, then become a member or support us with your donation !
The weekend was a success. A special thank you to all members who helped and provided information at the stand. Many affected people visited us personally and thanked the Association for its work. For some of our members, life has changed and made easier thanks to legal cannabis medication. The positive feedback strengthens our commitment and we recommend everyone to try the legal medical route. Even if it still requires a lot of initiative and patience. But we are also very aware of the obstacles that are still placed in the way of those affected. As long as health insurance companies and accident insurance companies do not support patients with the costs, it will remain unaffordable for many. We will continue to work to make access easier and costs affordable in the future.
In addition to the panel discussions and lectures, the main stage hosted the Swiss Joint Rolling Championships as well as the two award shows “CannaSwissCup” and “CannAward”. The winners of the “CannaSwissCup”, the choice of the best Swiss CBD varieties, can be viewed www.cannaswisscup.ch Under the “CannAward” label, the most beautiful stand (No. 208 + 209, Canna Switzerland GmbH) was honored and the “Lifetime Achievement Award” was presented. Georg Wurth, the managing director of the German Hemp Association (DHV), was honored for his long-standing commitment to cannabis legalization.
