MEDCAN at CannaTrade 2024

CannaTrade – the International Hemp Fair and Festival – took place for the 18th time, attracting over 10,000 visitors to Zurich from May 24th to 26th, 2024. The MEDCAN Association was also present in Hall 622 for three days to provide information about the medical applications of cannabis.

Spanning over 6000 square meters, the event showcased products and information from 150 exhibitors worldwide, all centered around cannabis as a useful, medicinal, and recreational plant. From cultivation equipment, CBD and hemp products, and information on the medicinal uses of hemp, to edibles, cosmetics, and smoking accessories, everything was on offer.

The medical section of the trade fair was a highlight for MEDCAN this year. Visitors were able to learn all about the medical prescription of cannabis from the SGCM (Swiss Society for Cannabis in Medicine), the Stauffacher Pharmacy, Pure Pharma, Curaleaf, and the MEDCAN Association . The organizers dedicated significant space to the medical use of cannabis this year, which we are very pleased about.

Cannatrade 2024 3On Sunday, our Vice President Simon participated in a fascinating medical panel discussion. Together with pharmacist Simon Nicolussi and industry representatives, he discussed the changes to the Narcotics Act and their impact. The panelists agreed: progress has been made, and access to cannabis as medicine has become easier. Nevertheless, much educational work remains necessary, especially for medical professionals. Since cannabis is now classified as a narcotic, pharmacies are not permitted to provide information. This makes it very difficult to educate people in Switzerland about the medical use of cannabis. Doctors are often uninformed as well. Therefore, the responsibility for educating the public falls to our Association , where we share the experiences of our members. Our website is also one of the few resources that provides detailed information and assistance to those seeking a medical cannabis prescription. Our members perform this work on a voluntary basis. The cannabis industry recognizes the need for the Association . We are counting on receiving even more financial support in the future from companies that profit from the medical use of cannabis. This will allow us to continue our work of providing information and education. Here you can find our supporters.

After the informative panel discussion, Franziska and Simon had the opportunity to speak for half an hour about MEDCAN's tenth anniversary and the important work of the Association . During the Q&A session at the end, they received heartfelt thanks for their vital work. We would like to extend this gratitude to everyone who supports the Association and the medical use of cannabis. Only together are we strong. Our members are the foundation of this important work, and many have been supporting us for years. Thank you so much! We truly appreciate this support. If you also find our work important, please consider becoming a member or supporting us with a donation !

The weekend was a success. A special thank you to all the members who helped out at the booth and provided information. Many people affected by cannabis visited us in person and thanked the Association for its work. For some of our members, life has changed dramatically and become easier thanks to legal cannabis medications. The positive feedback reinforces our commitment, and we encourage everyone to try the legal medical route, even though it still requires a lot of personal initiative and patience. We are also very aware of the obstacles that still stand in the way of those affected. As long as health insurance companies and accident insurers do not cover the costs for patients, it will remain unaffordable for many. We will continue to work to make access easier and the costs more affordable.

On the main stage, in addition to panel discussions and lectures, the Swiss Joint Rolling Championship took place, along with the two award shows, "CannaSwissCup" and "CannAward." The winners of the "CannaSwissCup," the competition for the best Swiss CBD strains, can be viewed online at www.cannaswisscup.ch . Under the "CannAward" label, the most attractive booth (Nos. 208 and 209, Canna Switzerland GmbH) was recognized, and the "Lifetime Achievement Award" was presented. Georg Wurth, the managing director of the German Hemp Association (DHV), was honored for his long-standing commitment to cannabis legalization.

MEDCAN is already looking forward to the next CannaTrade and thanks the organizers and everyone who made this event an unforgettable experience!
