“We, The Patients” – webinars and events for patients, by patients

We are excited to introduce you to our new social media platform and initiative “We, The Patients”! This project offers people who use cannabis for medical reasons a unique opportunity to exchange ideas, network and receive valuable information on therapeutic use. Whether through in-person events or interactive webinars, we want to create a movement that brings together, empowers and informs patients.

International networking and collaboration

For years, MEDCAN has also networked internationally with patient organizations from various countries. Together we founded the group “We, The Patients” to positively change the perception of the medical use of cannabis and to support those affected on their journey. Our aim is to create a better understanding of the potential of cannabis in medicine through events and webinars, to share in-depth knowledge and to strengthen the exchange of experiences.

The webinar and event series “From Patients for Patients” offers a platform that not only provides support and helpful information, but also enables exchange with other affected people. Lectures, workshops and interactive question and answer sessions are organized with contributions from experts and healthcare professionals. The aim is to offer practical assistance in dealing with health challenges, to form a strong community and to promote progress in research and legal regulations surrounding the medical use of cannabis.

Review of the first event in Madrid

The first “We, The patients” event took place in Madrid in October – a complete success! The event brought together many affected people and offered valuable insights into the medical use of cannabis. Despite the rain and storm - and although the government of Madrid had called on the population to stay at home - numerous interested people came, which demonstrated the strong solidarity of the community. Such events promote this solidarity and give those affected an important platform to make their experiences and needs visible.

A special highlight was the lecture by Manuel Guzmán, one of the most important scientists in this field. We are very grateful that his expertise contributed to the success of the event. His support shows the importance of the connection between research and the people who can benefit from these findings.

The recording of the event is now available on our social media and website. YouTube videos can be played with subtitles in the desired language - but currently only on the computer and with translation quality still in need of improvement. This function is constantly being optimized so that language barriers are no longer an obstacle in the future. We would like to make valuable scientific findings accessible to all people who rely on this information.

Our goals

With “We, The Patients” we want to:

  • Reduce stigma: Reduce prejudice against medical cannabis by sharing stories and science.
  • Promote education and empowerment: Make everyday life with cannabis medicine easier with evidence-based information and practical tips.
  • Strengthen community: create spaces in which patients can support and network with each other.

2025: “We, The Patients” events in Switzerland

At the end of February we will start with our first “We, the Patients” event in Switzerland. It takes place in Zurich and is aimed at the needs of people with neurodegenerative diseases. In addition to personal reports from those affected, medical experts will provide information about the effects and prescription of cannabis.

We would like to organize further events in Switzerland at regular intervals in 2025 with other key topics, such as chronic pain or pain associated with cancer. Our long-term goal is to build a committed community that supports those affected through knowledge, exchange and support. Together we would like to help ensure that patients are better informed and supported. We look forward to welcoming you to one of the “We, The Patients” events.

How can you participate?

We cordially invite everyone who is interested to become part of “We, the Patients”! Follow social media channels for date, location and registration information. Everything you need to know about the event in February in Zurich will be published soon.

Support our mission!

The “We, The Patients” event series is an innovative opportunity to educate people about the medical use of cannabis – legally and based on scientific findings and reports from those affected. Since legal restrictions - cannabis is a narcotic in Switzerland - understandably prohibit direct advertising of cannabis, evidence from experience reports is even more important
