International networking and cooperation
For years, MEDCAN has been networking internationally with patient organizations from various countries. Together, we launched the group "We, The Patients" to positively change the perception of the medical use of cannabis and to support those affected on their journey. Our aim is to create a better understanding of the potential of cannabis in medicine, share sound knowledge, and strengthen the exchange of experiences through events and webinars.
The webinar and event series "By Patients for Patients" offers a platform that not only provides support and helpful information but also facilitates exchange with other affected individuals. Featuring contributions from experts and healthcare professionals, the series includes lectures, workshops, and interactive Q&A sessions. The goal is to offer practical assistance in dealing with health challenges, to build a strong community, and to advance research and legal regulations surrounding the medical use of cannabis.
A look back at the first event in Madrid
In October, the first "We, The patients" event took place in Madrid – a resounding success! The event brought together many affected individuals and offered valuable insights into the medical use of cannabis. Despite rain and storms – and even though the Madrid government had urged the population to stay home – numerous interested people attended, clearly demonstrating the strong sense of community. Such events foster this solidarity and provide those affected with an important platform to make their experiences and needs visible.
A particular highlight was the lecture by Manuel Guzmán, one of the most important scientists in this field. We are very grateful that he contributed his expertise to the success of the event. His support demonstrates how important the connection is between research and the people who can benefit from these findings.
The recording of the event is now available on our social media channels and website. YouTube videos can be played with subtitles in the desired language – currently, however, only on a computer and with translation quality that still needs improvement. This feature is continuously being optimized so that language barriers will no longer be an obstacle in the future. In this way, we want to make valuable scientific findings accessible to everyone who relies on this information.

Our goals
With «We, The Patients» we want to:
- Breaking down stigma: Reducing prejudices against medical cannabis by sharing stories and scientific findings.
- Promoting education and empowerment: Making everyday life with cannabis medicine easier with evidence-based information and practical tips.
- Strengthening community: Creating spaces where patients can support and network with each other.
2025: «We, The Patients» events in Switzerland
At the end of February, we will launch our first "We, the Patients" event in Switzerland. It will take place in Zurich and is tailored to the needs of people with neurodegenerative diseases. In addition to personal accounts from those affected, medical experts will provide information on the effects and prescription of cannabis.
In 2025, we plan to regularly organize further events in Switzerland focusing on different topics, such as chronic pain or cancer pain. Our long-term goal is to build a dedicated community that supports those affected through knowledge, exchange, and assistance. Together, we want to contribute to better informed and supported patients. We look forward to welcoming you to one of the "We, The Patients" events.
