“We, The Patients” – Our first patient-for-patients event in Zurich was a complete success!

On Saturday, March 1, 2025, the first "We, The Patients" event in Switzerland took place in Zurich – organized by patients for patients. Around 60 participants gathered at Resident Zurich to learn about and exchange information on the medical use of cannabis for chronic and degenerative neurological diseases.

An event with emotional resonance

The participants were a diverse group: from young adults to older people who already had experience with cannabis as medicine. There were also those who wanted to explore it for the first time. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and many attendees particularly appreciated the opportunity for personal interaction. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive – many reported feeling very comfortable and especially appreciating the respectful atmosphere and the chance to ask questions in a safe and supportive environment.

“Never in my 55 years have I been to an event where I felt so safe and comfortable,” one participant reported enthusiastically. The organization and catering were also praised: “I was pleasantly surprised. Thank you so much for the ‘surprise package’ with information material, posters, notepads, etc.” The support for guests with mobility impairments was particularly highlighted: “We received assistance, and those of us with walking difficulties were even served. That was almost the best part for me – not having to ask five times, but rather the friendly young people taking excellent care of us.”

High-caliber lectures

The event offered informative presentations from renowned experts:

  • Dr. Franjo Grotenhermen spoke about the role of cannabis in neurological diseases.
  • Dr. Nicolai Berardi explained the legal framework for prescribing cannabis in Switzerland – a topic that generated great interest.
  • Simón Winistörfer, himself an MS patient, gave a compelling account of his personal experiences with cannabis and how it has changed his life.

Simon's presentation was particularly moving: "His report was very insightful," said one participant. However, some guests regretted that the announced topic of neurodegenerative diseases was not adequately addressed: "I work in the field of frontotemporal dementia, and the topic of cannabis is always relevant. I would have liked a more in-depth presentation." We take this feedback to heart and will consider it in future events.

A space for meeting and exchange

In addition to the lectures, there were many opportunities for networking. Participants particularly appreciated the open atmosphere and the chance to connect with others who shared similar experiences. "I met several people, including a woman almost my age with the same diagnosis – we even live nearby!" one attendee exclaimed enthusiastically. The friendly and attentive care was also frequently praised: "The young doctor was very friendly and simply a wonderful addition."

Thanks to our sponsors – without them this wouldn't be possible!

Such an event thrives on the support of sponsors and media partners. It is very important to us that patients can participate free of charge and benefit from this valuable exchange.

Therefore, we would like to sincerely thank our sponsors who made this possible:

We also extend our sincere thanks to our media partners who help us to make the topic accessible to a wider public:

The event powerfully demonstrated the importance of exchange among those affected. The success of the first "We, The Patients" event in Zurich motivates us to continue our work, ensuring it won't be the last in Switzerland. Many participants expressed a desire for a repeat event – with an even more targeted focus on specific illnesses. The opportunity to hear further personal accounts and engage in more in-depth discussions with specialists was also frequently suggested.

One thing is certain: This day will remain a cherished memory for many – and the «We, The Patients» movement has only just begun!
