“We, The Patients” in Bern
An event by patients for patients
The audience was a diverse mix – many of them with long-term pain conditionswho were looking for new approaches. Most attendees were over 50 years old, with an average age of around 65.It was particularly striking that approximately 70% of the participants were women.

Some came with their relatives or friends to get information, listen, and find new solutions to their health problems . It was precisely this exchange – between those affected, their families, and professionals – that made the afternoon so valuable and engaging

Knowledge, experience and lived solidarity
The program offered a strong combination of specialist knowledge and personal experience:
- Dr. David Marx He spoke about the effect of cannabinoids on pain receptors and impressively demonstrated, using case studies, how cannabis can contribute to pain relief.
- Dr. Nicolai Berardi, one of Switzerland's most experienced doctors in the field of cannabis therapy, explained the advantages of the Vaporizing cannabis flowers and was also available to answer participants' questions during the breaks.
- Bea Goldman MScA registered nurse with many years of experience using cannabis in nursing care, she delivered a moving presentation full of practical examples. She has worked in this field for many years and has helped countless patients with great dedication and on a voluntary basis – providing functional, advisory, and human support. Today, she is on the front lines, supporting people in achieving a Recipe to obtain and the correct form of therapy to find. Their efforts deserve great recognition.
- Franziska Quadri, President of MEDCAN, concluded the afternoon with a very personal story. She recounted how she became paraplegic after an accident and has lived with severe pain ever since.
“I still suffer from pain today – but cannabis has allowed me to alleviate it and regain a piece of my quality of life. This therapy has changed my life. Having legal access is a gift for which I am incredibly grateful . That's exactly what I'm committed to – ensuring that everyonewho needs medical cannabis has access to it in the future.”
– Franziska Quadri
An afternoon full of encounters
The event was not only informative, but also a place for exchange, listening, and mutual support. Many attendees said that it was the first time they had been able to speak openly about their experiences.
"I saw the flyer by chance. The event made me realize how much I didn't know about cannabis. The case studies and presentations were very impressive."
– Jacqueline
“I felt seen and valued as a real patient. I learned new things and made valuable contacts.”
– Bob
The speakers also praised the format and emphasized how important such platforms are for education and dialogue between patients and professionals.

outlook
“We, The Patients” is more than an event series – it’s a movement. A movement of patients across Europe who associationeducation, visibility, and acceptance of their voices to promote medical cannabis . Following Madrid , Zurich, and Bern , our first event in London will take place in November 2025 – another step on our shared journey.
We thank everyone who made this event in Bern possible and hope that participants will find a medical professional if they wish to try this form of therapy. Unfortunately, far too few people in Switzerland are aware that since the legal amendment of August 1, 2022 , every general practitioner legally prescribe cannabis . This is precisely why events like this are so important: they raise awareness, impart knowledge, and give hope to those affected.

We are deeply grateful that it is now possible to use cannabis medicinally. Many of our members report that cannabis has helped them live with their pain – with more peace, better sleep, and renewed joy in life. Our greatest wish is that all patients have access to this therapy – safely, legally, and affordably. As an Association , we are committed to making this a reality.
