Support from the patient's perspective
A core aspect of our work is providing direct support to those affected. We receive daily inquiries from patients, relatives, and professionals. We regularly answer emails in four languages and offer assistance with topics such as:
- Prescription of cannabis medicines
- specialized doctors and pharmacies
- Reimbursement by health insurance companies
- practical experience with various products
We provide guidance in an area that is still new and confusing for many.
Patient exchange for patients
Our Telegram channel is a vibrant place for exchange – by patients for patients . Experiences are shared, questions are asked, and valuable tips are passed on.
In addition, you will find a lot of practical information about everyday life with cannabis therapy:
- Lists of specialized pharmacies
- Overviews of available medications
- Product and price comparisons
- Experiences with prescribing and cost approvals
This direct exchange on equal terms is a tremendous support for many.
Our monthly online get-together
Our online meeting place once a month. In a safe and confidential environment, those affected can exchange ideas, speak openly, and learn from each other.
This section addresses real, everyday questions from the patient's perspective:
How do I talk to doctors? What do I do if I have problems with my health insurance? What experiences have others had?
No one has to go through this alone.
We, The Patients – Events by patients for patients
With our event series " We, The Patients " we create spaces for encounters, knowledge, and visibility. These events are intentionally by patients for patients .
There, personal experiences meet expert knowledge:
- Reports from life with cannabis therapy
- Exchange with other patients
- Lectures by specialized medical professionals
In this way, we combine lived reality with medical knowledge – in an understandable and practical way.
We represent the patient perspective in politics
MEDCAN is also politically active. We advocate for the patient perspective to be considered in health policy decisions.
A key issue remains cost coverage . Currently, only a small number of patients receive reimbursement from their health insurance. For many, therapy therefore represents a significant financial burden. We advocate for the voice of those affected in discussions with politicians, authorities, and institutions.
Our work is unpaid – your support makes it possible
All of MEDCAN's work is done on a voluntary and unpaid basis . Behind the Association are dedicated individuals who invest their time and energy to provide patients with information, opportunities for exchange, and political representation.
MEDCAN is financed exclusively by:
- Memberships
- Donate
- Companies that support our work
Every membership directly helps to continue this independent patient work.
